TV- PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GOALThe TV Production Management course, which comprises some 40 weekends of study alongside participants' regular job commitments, aims to impart a broad range of knowhow from various areas of television production management. The course enables participants to interface with programme teams as competent decision-makers in matters of content, business management, production issues and planning, and to accompany TV projects through all stages of development. The focus is on genres such as TV series and made-for-TV movies, with additional attention devoted to entertainment shows, documentary series and children's television.
CURRICULUM
There are three areas of study:
- Programme Management covering
- business, legal and structural aspects of TV production and programme planning
- programme designs and formats
- costing
- scheduling
- marketing and licensing
- media law
- audience research
- Dramaturgy and Aesthetics covering
- fundamentals of dramaturgy and aesthetics for various programme formats
- development of sound judgement in matters of content and form as a basis for collaboration with all creative team members
- theme identification and research
- screenplay, characterization and dialogue
- special aspects of
- drama series
- TV documentaries
- children's programmes
- picture composition, scenography and montage
- sound dramaturgy
- Production Techniques covering
- technical fundamentals of programme production in relation to all main stages of programme development
- film and TV shooting techniques
- the work of the processing laboratory
- scanning, editing and post-production of video and sound
TUTORS AND TEACHING METHODS
BAF implements this professional development concept in collaboration with renowned guest tutors from all areas of film and television production: screenwriters and dramaturgists from public and private TV stations, producers, directors, authors, cameramen/women and editors focus their many years of experience into the curriculum, which consists not only of lectures and seminars but also of training workshops and practically orientated programme analysis.
ASSESSMENT
The course concludes with a final exam in two parts: a written exam and an assignment. Those successfully completing the course are awarded a certificate of qualification.
