Founded in 1993, BAF has a
straightforward philosophy: it offers hands-on professional training for
sought-after jobs in television.
Where university might be
too long or too theoretical, but just "learning by doing" or
"training on the job" isn't enough, BAF's vocational training builds
a rock-solid foundation for a career in television.
BAF focusses on the journalistic genres – news, magazines and documentaries – and gives training in four key disciplines:
Television Journalism
CINEMATOGRAPHY
Editing
3D Animation + VFX
Peoples and methods
The Academys concept is based on small numbers of students taught by experienced professional practitioners. This ensures that students can be given close individual guidance by skilled tutors in day-to-day touch with the real world of television. The language of instruction is German, but there are BAF graduates working throughout the world.
Facilities
BAFs technical infrastructure is equivalent to that of a small TV station or production company. All the Academys technology meets the professional standards expected in todays television industry.
Beyond the basics...
Apart from entry-level
training, BAF is also actively engaged in professional development for those
already working in television. This includes:
-
a
TV Production Management
course offered as
job-enhancement training
- a variety of workshops on selected TV topics
A track record that speaks for itself
The
success of a vocational training institute is the success of its graduates on
the job market. BAF is proud of the fact that around 90% of its graduates have
found employment in the television industry. Whether they are now in public
television or at private TV stations, BAF
graduates
can look back on their year at the
Academy as just the right start to their career in television.
students
Each of the three annual classes takes only 15 students, who are selected by admission test. Because classes are kept small in number, every student has the opportunity of working frequently with BAFs production technology.
Assessment
After an intermediate exam about halfway through the year, overall performance is assessed in a final exam. Both exams comprise practical and theoretical parts. Everyone successfully graduating from the course, besides being awarded a certificate of qualification, receives a demo tape containing his or her own productions for job application purposes.
